Puerto Villamil, located on the southeast coast of Isabela Island, is a small port village usually packed with yachts and sailboats, as it is a popular stop on their way to the Marquesas Islands. It was named after General José Villamil, the first governor of the islands. Most of Isabela's population of approximately 2,200 people lives in Puerto Villamil. The village offers a stunning white-sand beach lined with palm trees, an ideal place for lazing in the sun, swimming, snorkeling and surfing. You can often encounter flamingos and marine iguanas here.
