El Junco Lagoon is a lake formed in a volcanic crater in the highlands of San Cristóbal Island, 700m above sea level. Its name comes from the local flowering plants known as sedges (El Junco in Spanish) and it is the only freshwater lake in Galapagos. Its diameter is 886 ft and its depth reaches up to 20 ft. You can enjoy stunning views hiking around the lake and admiring the green hills surrounding it. You can also spot a variety of seabirds here, like pintail ducks, common gallinules, white-cheeked pintails and frigate birds.
